How to trim a video on Windows

Three steps, all on your PC. Nothing is uploaded.

  1. Open Tools › Video & audio › Trim video or audio and choose a file.

  2. Drag the two handles, or type the start and end, and play the part to check it.

  3. Choose Fast or Exact and trim. The original is not changed.

  • With Fast, a video starts on the keyframe before the cut, so it may begin a moment early.
  • One part is kept per trim.
  • A file that does not say how long it is cannot be trimmed.

How do I cut the beginning off a video?

Open Trim video or audio, drag the start handle to where the clip should begin, and trim. Fast takes seconds; Exact starts on the very frame.

Can I trim a song for a ringtone?

Yes. Sound files such as MP3, M4A and WAV trim the same way, along their waveform, and keep their format.

Does trimming a video lower its quality?

Not with Fast: the part is copied as it is. Exact encodes the picture again at high quality so it can start on any frame.
