How it works
How to convert PDF pages to JPG or PNG on Windows
Three steps, all on your PC. Nothing is uploaded.
-
Open Tools › PDF › PDF to images, or choose To pictures in the Reader’s Convert menu.
-
Choose the picture format, the resolution and every page or some pages.
-
Find the pictures next to the PDF. The PDF itself is not changed.
What you get
Built for the real document.
-
Four picture formats
PNG keeps text sharp, JPG is smallest for scans and photos, WebP suits websites and TIFF print.
-
Screen or print
72, 150, 300 or 600 dpi. The dialog shows how many pixels the first page will be.
-
Just the pages you need
Every page, or a list such as 1-3, 5, 8- (to the last page).
-
One page from the Reader
Right-click a page in the Reader to save that page alone as a picture.
Your choices
Every choice, before it starts.
The PDF to images dialog, drawn from the app with its defaults selected. The notes say what each choice does.
Save as
PNG is lossless: text and lines stay sharp, and it opens everywhere.
Resolution
Page 1 becomes 1240 × 1754 pixels (an A4 page at 150 dpi).
Quality
For JPG. Lower is smaller.
Pages
Some pages takes a list such as 1-3, 5, 8-; “8-” runs to the last page.
Each PDF gets a folder of pictures, such as “report (images)”. The original is not changed.
Under the hood
How it decides.
What it reads, what it saves, and the rules it follows, taken from the app itself.
Reads 1 file type
.pdf
Saves as
- report (page 5).png, for one page
- report (images) › report (page 01).png, report (page 02).png…
Never over another file, and never over your original.
Pictures like any other
Each page is drawn on white and saved exactly as a picture of that format would be.
Names that sort
Page numbers in a folder are zero-padded, so page 10 comes after page 9.
Every core at work
Pages are drawn and saved in batches across all your processor cores.
Restricted PDFs welcome
A PDF that only restricts printing or copying still works: saving a page as a picture is like printing it.

Why not an online converter?
Online tools ask for your file first. Podalls Convert never does.
Good to know
Honest limits.
What this tool does not do, said plainly.
- Password-protected PDFs need to be unlocked first, with Unlock PDF.
- Pages are drawn on white; transparent backgrounds are not kept.
- A page that would be enormous at the chosen resolution is drawn smaller, with a warning.
First time? The install guide shows every screen, including the Windows warning.
Can I save just one page of a PDF as a picture?
Yes. Right-click the page in the Reader and choose Save this page as a picture, or list that page under Some pages.
Which resolution should I choose?
150 dpi suits screens, slides and sharing; 300 dpi suits printing. 600 dpi makes very large files.
How do I convert a PDF to JPG?
Open PDF to images, choose the PDF, pick JPG and a resolution, and save. Each page becomes its own JPG in a folder named after the PDF.
Should I save PDF pages as PNG or JPG?
PNG for pages of text, charts and drawings: they stay sharp. JPG for scans and photos: the files are much smaller.
