Why it works the way it does
Most PDF tools ask you to upload a document to a server you know nothing about, wait, and download a result. For a contract, a payslip or a medical record, that is a strange thing to ask. Podalls Convert takes the opposite position: the conversion happens on your own machine, so the question of who else has your file never arises.
Recognise scanned text locally, create searchable PDFs, or read scans while converting to Word, Excel or EPUB. Requires an installed Windows OCR language. Recognition runs on your PC; results depend on scan quality. Converting Office documents to PDF relies on an office application already installed on the machine. Complex layouts sometimes need cleanup after conversion. Every one of those is a real limit, listed on the app’s page rather than buried.
Podalls Downloader follows the same rule from the other end: what you ask for is saved straight to your disk, and the app connects to nothing but the links you give it and the update check. When both are installed, a finished download opens in Podalls Convert with one click.
