How it works
How to convert HEIC to JPG on Windows
Three steps, all on your PC. Nothing is uploaded.
-
Open Tools › Images › HEIC to JPG, or drop HEIC photos or a folder of them.
-
JPG is already chosen; pick a quality and, if you like, a smaller size.
-
Find the JPGs next to the HEIC photos.
What you get
Built for the real document.
-
Folders at once
Drop a whole folder copied from a phone and convert every photo in one go.
-
The right way up
The camera’s rotation is applied, so nothing comes out sideways.
-
Location left behind
GPS and other EXIF details are not copied into the JPG.
-
Smaller if you like
Set the longest side to shrink photos for email; they are never enlarged.
Your choices
Every choice, before it starts.
The Convert images dialog, drawn from the app with its defaults selected. The notes say what each choice does.
Convert to
Size
Longest side in pixels. Never enlarged.
Quality
Lower is smaller.
Saved with names like “IMG_0412.jpg” next to the originals.
Under the hood
How it decides.
What it reads, what it saves, and the rules it follows, taken from the app itself.
Reads 2 file types
.heic.heif
Saves as
- IMG_0412.jpg
Never over another file, and never over your original.
Read by Windows
HEIC photos are opened through Windows’ own HEIF extension, the one the Photos app uses.
True colour
The photo’s colour profile is kept in the JPG.
Never overwritten
If a JPG with that name is already there, the new one gets a name of its own.
App or website?
Why not an online converter?
Online tools ask for your file first. Podalls Convert never does.
Good to know
Honest limits.
What this tool does not do, said plainly.
- Windows needs the free HEIF Image Extensions from the Microsoft Store to read HEIC.
- A HEIC holding several pictures gives its first one, with a warning.
First time? The install guide shows every screen, including the Windows warning.
How do I open HEIC files on Windows?
Install the free HEIF Image Extensions from the Microsoft Store. Then Podalls Convert reads them, and HEIC to JPG makes copies that open everywhere.
Can I save pictures as HEIC instead?
Yes. Convert images saves HEIC too, about half the size of JPG. That needs HEIF Image Extensions and HEVC Video Extensions.
Is HEIC better than JPG?
HEIC files are about half the size for the same look, but many computers and websites cannot open them. JPG opens everywhere.
Is HEIC to JPG in Podalls Convert free?
Yes. Podalls Convert is free for personal and commercial use, with no account and no subscription. Every tool in it, including this one, comes in the same free download.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. Podalls Convert does the work on your PC and saves the result there. It only goes online to check for and download its own updates.
In the same free download
